Classic Guitar Construction - Irving Sloane, 1966 First Edition Book

Diagrams, photographs, and step-by-step instructions.

With the complexities of an automated life, too often the serious working at a craft - whether as a livelihood or in one's spare time - is given only superficial coverage. Thus, too often the materials written to guide one in such a craft (if they exist at all) are inadequate.

Irving Sloane has addressed himself to filling such a need in the craft which interests him most: the making of classic guitars. He has been making them for ten years and while writing this book, Mr. Sloane made two guitars. He has written about each step of the process with lucid and thorough prose, and he has illustrated each step with exceptionally clear and professional photographs and drawings.

Besides being the only such book in its field, Classic Guitar Construction is a book by a craftsman, written with sensitivity and careful attention to detail. It is an illuminating discussion of the techniques of making a fine guitar that will inspire the novice guitarmaker and delight all friends of the classic guitar.

Correction: page 45, fifth paragraph, last sentence (specifying thickness to which the face of the head should be planed), 1/2" should be 11/16".
